NOTES and GUIDANCE for WALKERS What to bring: Please bring food and drink, wear stout footwear, and carry waterproof clothing for possible wet weather. Ideally, every walker should also carry a first aid kit and a mobile 'phone. Start points: The meeting place at the start of the walk is indicated by the location and grid reference against each walk in the (printed) programme. Shared transport to walks: It is Ramblers policy to promote car-sharing, for both economic and environmental reasons, and to permit people who do not drive to join our walks. Drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers. As a guide, 7p per mile is considered a reasonable amount to cover the costs incurred by the driver. If you need help with finding a lift to a particular walk you can try 'phoning the leader for that walk - he or she may be able to arrange something on your behalf, but this cannot be guaranteed, we can only do our best. Walk cancellation: In inclement weather, and when any doubt exists, it is the responsibility of the walker to contact the leader to check if the walk will take place. Safety and leaders'authority: Whilst leaders do their best to ensure safe walks, those taking part do so at their own risk. Please listen to the leader's instructions, especially when negotiating busy roads, and observe the Country Code at all times. Please do not walk ahead of the leader and also ensure that the leader or backmarker is told if any walker drops behind the main group. Dogs: Dogs are allowed unless otherwise stated, but they must be kept under strict control at all times. If this is not complied with, owners will be asked not to bring the dog on future walks. |
